Many of the most twisted fables and mythological creatures surrounding the holidays have emerged from Scandinavian history, and half of the reason they’ve endured so well is the charming embrace of the lurid lore over the years. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is the perfect example of this lovingly sardonic attitude, as the Finnish horror-comedy follows a Finnish family that discovers the “shocking truth” about Santa Claus. The film itself is a wild ride worth taking even if it may be too rough for younger viewers, but the spirit of Christmas is absolutely on display, albeit in a very chaotic and macabre manner....
